Other Natural Disasters
EARTHQUAKES- earthquakes are tremors in the ground caused when two tectonic plates shift apart, together, or slide besides each other. earthquakes can be the cause of landslides, the ground shaking, and ground rupture.
Tornadoes- Tornadoes are rotating funnel-shaped clouds that are formed during a storm. There are different types of tornadoes that are classified by their size and strength, F1-F5 (F1 being the weakest while F5 being the strongest).
Tsunamis- Tsunamis are enormous waves caused by underwater earthquakes, landslides, or volcanoes. While they are in open ocean, tsunamis can reach over hundreds of miles per hour. When i tsunami reaches the shore, the waves can be up to one hundred feet.
Hurricanes- Hurricanes are devastating tropical storms that form over the southern Atlantic ocean, Caribbean sea, Gulf Of Mexico, and the eastern pacific ocean. Hurricanes have a counterclockwise rotation in the northern hemisphere of the earth. Winds produced by hurricanes can reach over one hundred and fifty five miles per hour, and hurricanes bring heavy rainfall to the area that could cause flooding.
floods- In the United States, floods are the most common natural disasters. Floods can either develop quickly (flash flood), or can take a while to develop. Floods can carry dangerous debris in the water making them very dangerous to swim in. Some floods can have rapid white waters, of can have calm and still waters.
